High performance mining is a synonym for increased efficiency, increased productivity and higher production rates in raw materials extraction. These became the deciding factors in determining the economic success of a mining operation.
The global trend in underground mining operations is towards ever increasing productivity. The important factors affecting productivity are:
Automation
Communication
Infrastructure
These encompass: advances in propulsion and extraction technology, logistics, preventative maintenance, planning and organisation. The focal point will therefore be the continuous development of technologies aimed at improving performance and productivity. Benchmarking between different mining operations and sectors can point out areas which have potential for improvement.
The symposium continues to provide a platform for knowledge exchange between international representatives of mining, tunnelling, suppliers, authorities and research.
