Following its incorporation
into the University of Exeter in 1994 and its more recent
relocation to a new, state-of-the-art campus near Falmouth, Cornwall, the Camborne School of Mines has
continued to build on its international reputation for the quality of its
research and teaching. CSM has been training mining engineers since 1888 and
today offers a unique combination of expertise in geology, mining and renewable
energy.
- Internationally recognised
research encompasses mining-related fields as diverse as health and safety, new
blasting and monitoring techniques, geomechanics, mineral process technology
and applied mineralogy, with particular emphasis on responsible mining and
sustainable development. Interdisciplinary work is very much encouraged and the
multidisciplinary renewable energy group links engineering and physical
sciences to policy and economics research.
- We now wish to further
strengthen the School with the appointment an internationally recognised
researcher with interests in the broad area of mining engineering. S/he will be
expected to provide research leadership, to secure major funding to support research,
to disseminate research findings and to supervise post-doctoral, postgraduate
and undergraduate research projects. The successful applicant will be required
to contribute to teaching across the range of undergraduate and graduate level
programs.
- High value is placed on
links with the mining industry and we would be pleased to consider candidates
from outside academia provided that they have substantial research experience
and a demonstrable ability to make successful project proposals and produce high
quality written output.
